THE Health and Safety Executive will not carry out an investigation after a worker suffered traumatic injuries after becoming trapped in machinery in Chalkwell.

Back in March, emergency services rushed to the seafront and Chalkwell Esplanade after reports of a man being trapped in machinery before he was freed by the fire service and airlifted to hospital.

It was later revealed the worker was installing supportive hoarding to strengthen a ramp leading to Chalkwell rail station, where he was seriously injured.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has today confirmed after carrying out initial enquiries, they will not be investigating the incident.

They said: "Although we made some initial enquiries into this incident, we will not be investigating what happened any further."

At the time, Southend Council confirmed a council contractor was involved as part of a team installing “hoarding” and “additional props” to strengthen a ramp which leads to the railway bridge at Chalkwell train station.

The man suffered serious hand injuries.

The council stated all safety protocols and risk assessments were in place but it was passed to the Health and Safety Executive to carry out enquiries.
