MOVIE buffs will be able to kick off the summer season in style with a beach set to be transformed into an open-air cinema.

Shoebury East Beach will become a must-visit attraction for three days next month with event organisers from Vision Cinema promising to offer “a unique and immersive movie-watching experience under the stars”.

The outdoor cinema will kick off on Friday, June 28 with a showing of Elemental in the afternoon and a showing of Dune: Part Two in the evening.

Saturday, June 29 will start with a free showing of Wish in the morning, followed by a showing of Peter Pan and Wendy in the afternoon and another showing of the latest Dune film in the evening.

A bumper day on Sunday, June 30 will offer cinemagoers a choice of four films – including more opportunities to see Elemental, Peter Pan and Wendy, and Dune: Part Two, followed by a late-night screening of The Boogeyman.

Standard tickets will cost £3.95 and the outdoor cinema will provide capacity for up to 150 film fans.

Visitors will be handed a pair of noise cancelling wireless headphones so they can fully immerse themselves in the film while blocking out seaside distractions.

Food and drink will also be on offer which movie watchers can order from their mobile phones and have delivered straight to their seats.

Heated blankets will even be on offer should the unpredictable Great British weather take a turn for the worst.

Vision Cinema, a leisure operator which started trading about three years ago, has attracted a loyal fanbase with plenty of customers rushing to social media to praise the experience they’ve been offered at other sites across the country.

Business and development director Delroy Edwards says the company is already planning for next summer and hopes to make a return to Southend.

“We’re going all over,” he said. “We started off in London and now we’re expanding to beaches. We’re heading to Margate and Bournemouth this year too.

“The main ethos of being a cinema is providing experiences to communities and we do care a lot about customer service.”
