A CASUALTY needing medical evacuation has been rescued by the Southend coastguard team.

HM Coastguard Southend were tasked at 12:20am on Sunday morning to a casualty requiring a medical evacuation from a vessel at North Fambridge Yacht Club.

They worked alongside South Woodham Coastguard Rescue Team, RNLI-Burnham on Crouch, and East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust to help the casualty.

Coastguard Officers arrived on scene, met with the RNLI crew and formulated a plan as to best extraction of the casualty safely from the vessel.

Once this was complete the team carried the casualty via stretcher to the waiting ambulance crews at the top of the slipway.

A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: "A successful and safe extraction with great interoperability across all services and crews returned to station post 3am.

"We wish the casualty a quick and full recovery.

"Should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, you could save someone’s life."
