A WOMAN and baby remain in hospital with serious injuries after a crash saw an air ambulance land on the A13.

The emergency services rushed to London Road in Hadleigh at about 9.15pm on Thursday after a crash involving at least two cars.

Two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remain in custody, Essex Police said.

The force confirmed a red BMW and red Volkswagen were involved in a crash and photos seen by the Echo also show a damaged white car at the scene outside a BP garage.

Firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service freed one person who was trapped in a car.

The fire service said: “On arrival, crews reported three vehicles had collided and one person was trapped in their car.

“Firefighters worked to rescue the casualty and they were left in the care of the ambulance service.”

A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed five ambulance service vehicles and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended the crash.

“We transported a woman and baby to the Royal London Hospital for treatment,” he said.

Their injuries had initially been described as "potentially life-threatening" but are now being described as "serious".

An eyewitness described the scene as a “horror smash” and told the Echo the police and ambulance service remained at the scene for at least 40 minutes after the crash with a cordon in place.

Detectives from Essex Police have now appealed for the public’s help with their investigation.

“Officers believe there were cars in the area at the time and that there may have been some drivers who witnessed the collision or captured the collision on dashcam,” a spokesman for the force said.

“We’d ask those drivers to see if they have captured anything that could assist with our investigation.

“If you have any information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.”
