A FUNDRAISING walk along Southend's legendary pier is returning for its 20th anniversary this month.

Residents are daytrippers are encouraged to join Leigh Rotary Club as it takes to the landmark for the annual Great Pier Walk.

The event aims to raise money for Southend Hospital, this year fundraising for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation's spotlight radiotherapy appeal.

The appeal aims to raise £600,000 by 2025 to provide new radiotherapy equipment to Southend Hospital, benefiting thousands of oncology patients across mid and south Essex.

The event is open to everyone with no pre-registration required, so all walkers can sign up on Sunday, May 19 to take part and raise vital funds for the hospital.

Running from 10.15am until 4pm,  walkers will pay on the day with adult tickets costing £6.50, children paying £3.50, or £18 per family.

A Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity spokesman said: "Take on the Rotary Club of Leigh’s annual Great Pier Walk, this year celebrating it’s 20th year.

"Your generosity in attending this event will benefit Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s £600,000 Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal to revolutionise radiotherapy treatment at Southend Hospital."
