ADVENTURE seekers are needed to take part in one of the exciting fundraising challenges organised by Havens Hospices.
From tackling the Three Peaks or Ben Nevis here in the UK, to trekking or volunteering on a project overseas, there are events which will appeal to anyone looking for thrills.
Overseas challenges include trekking the Sahara Desert, discovering the wonders of Peru, backpacking through the rainforests in Vietnam, and discovering the volcanic landscape of Iceland.
Trekkers must raise money through sponsorship for their challenge and the charity is hoping to make 2014 its most adventurous year yet.
An open day is being held on Wednesday for people who want to take up some exciting challenges in 2014.
Sally Nayler, 47, from Benfleet, signed up to trek the Sahara Desert this year.
She said: “This is my first challenge and I’m feeling excited and a bit nervous, too.
“I’ve started fundraising and have bought my walking boots ready to start my training. I’m looking forward to taking part in the trek as it will really take me out of my comfort zone while helping Havens Hospices to continue its fantastic work.”
Emma Hamilton, events fundraiser for Havens Hospices, said: “After the buzz of Christmas, January can leave people feeling a bit blue, so we’re offering some incredible adventures to start 2014.
“The open day will give anyone thinking about doing a challenge all the information they could possibly need.
“Our challenges are as tailor-made as they can be so our supporters get the absolute best experience they could wish for, while knowing they are helping us to continue caring for seriously-ill children and adults from across Essex.”
The open evening starts at 6pm, on January 29, at Little Havens Hospice, Daws Heath Road, Thundersley.
There will be presentations on the Sahara Challenge and the London to Paris Tour de France
