Second post-mortem could be carried out on stabbed teenager

THE body of a schoolboy found in a Grays flat could undergo a second post-mortem examination.

Breck Bednar, 14, of Caterham, Surrey, was found stabbed to death in a flat on Rosebery Road, Grays on Monday.

On Friday, an inquest into the death of the teenager opened in Chelmsford.

Alan Clemence, the court clerk, said police had been called to the Rosebery Road flat on Monday morning following reports of a stabbing.

He added that a post-mortem, carried out by Surrey-based pathologist Olaf Biedrzycki on Tuesday afternoon, had found the cause of Breck's death to be "incision wound to the neck".

But senior coroner for Essex, Caroline Beasley-Murray, adjourned the inquest for a week and said a second post-mortem could take place in the coming days.

On Thursday, Breck's family issued a statement paying tribute to him.

Breck, an air cadet, was the son of millionaire oil broker, Barry, 49, and Lorin LaFave, 46.

The statement said: "He was a kind, intelligent, thoughtful boy with a good sense of humour and was a dedicated student at St Bede's school, Redhill and gifted in computing, electronics and engineering."

A charity fund has been set up in Breck's memory to support computer literacy.


-LEWIS Daynes, 18, of Rosebery Road, Grays has been charged with Breck's murder.

The computer engineer was arrested on Monday and appeared before Basildon Magistrates' on Wednesday morning and at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday.

He will appear at Chelmsford Crown Court again on April 24 for a plea and case management hearing.

The teenager was remanded in custody and there was no application for bail.
