A Basildon man has been arrested following reports of a shooting in the High Road area of Laindon.
Armed police was swarmed to the suspected shooting at about 9.30pm last night, after a 30-year-old man claimed he had been shot at.
The complainant was found safe and well but a 22-year-old man has since been arrested in Pitsea and is currently being questioned.
A section of High Road has been taped off while police look for any evidence of a weapon.
However, the force said they are treating it as a drugs related incident and there is no threat to the community.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “A number of roads surrounding the Laindon Community Centre remain closed while a search of the area is conducted for any sign of a weapon or its usage.
“This closure is expected to remain in place until lunchtime."
Witnesses should call 101.
