CHARITIES in south Essex have been given more than £18,000.

A youth club on Canvey Island, a Marching Corps and a Rochford based charity helping vulnerable people in need are among the groups given a boost in the latest round of grants from the Essex Millennium Fund and Essex County Council’s Chairman’s Fund.

Councillor Kay Twitchen, Chairman of Essex County Council, said: “Essex is a large and diverse County and these Awards remind us of just what an asset we have in our voluntary sector. You bring so much joy, so much renewal and so much support to people of all ages and for whom life can be tough sometimes.” The two funds, managed by the independent charitable trust Essex Community Foundation (ECF), has given a total of more than £67,000 to 22 charities.
