A NEW helpline has been rolled out by Southend Association of Voluntary Services.

The service helps people find the right support when they need help for themselves and their loved ones.

Initially launched to help GPs find the right support in the community for their patients, its success has led to it being extended so anyone can call it.

Savs has a database and expertise of more than 800 voluntary and community groups which can provide support to help people manage a health condition through specialist groups, clubs, practical assistance or information.

The helpline is staffed from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, with an answerphone at all other times.

Savs can provide the relevant information and guidance to put callers in touch with the right people.

Sufferers of Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, mental health issues and dementia have already been helped by the service, which is supported by the NHS Southend Clinical Commissioning Group.

People have been advised on the right counselling services to turn to, how to get transport to medical appointments and social clubs.
