Echo: Agency wins three years running Agency wins three years running

STAFF at letting agency Belvoir are celebrating a record-breaking award – winning for the third year running in the national 2014 Lettings Agency of the Year awards.

Belvoir, based in London Road, Westcliff, was named Best Lettings Franchise 2014 at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel.

It was the fourth time in total Belvoir had won at the awards. As well as winning Best Letting Franchise, it was also named Bronze winner in the Best Customer Service (Large Lettings Agency) category.

Owner Wayne Mearns said: “Our team, along with all our colleagues in the Belvoir network, are delighted after winning what is undoubtedly one of the most hard-fought competitions in our industry.

“Our continued success is based on providing local landlord and tenant clients with the highest-possible levels of customer service and care, so it is a real privilege to be recognised in this way and a major boost for our business.”

The judging panel’s citation said: “We found Belvoir to be one of the most responsible, ethical and wellpositioned franchise businesses in the industry, with a 19-year track record.”

My experience of them was that they were useless, untrustworthy and rude.

We had a flat with a move in date, and a few days before it fell through for little or no reason (imagine someone offered more). The service in general was terrible.

I guess at least they turned up to viewings which some estate agents don't do (or assume turning up 30 minutes late is acceptable)

So happy I no longer rent!

l rang them up just a week ago to enquire whether a flat in a four storey block, which had a flat on the 2nd floor, had a lift.
l assumed it did but was really surprised when the young man said he didn`t know as the person who hadviewed it wasn`t in the office !!
Completely flabbergasted, what happenned to COMMUNICATION ? !!!

I would certainly never go there again, or recommend them.

You lot moaning unfortunately need to realise that tenants to letting agents are scum and ten a penny , they mug off tenants at every opportunity and fleece them for as much as possible

- £300 credit check
- £200 Admin fee
- £100 Referencing
- Deposit up front

All non refundable

The most profitable letting agents don't even charge landlords (unless its a managed property) they rent it for free and make the £££ off the tenants.

The industry needs some serious looking @ starting with a cap on 'admin' and other checks.

In Belvoir's defence they are no worse than any of the others.

Excuse me I am not scum. I rent as I have to. And yes agents are rip off merchants because they are allowed to. Private Landlords use them at times because they can do all the checks. The fees are a joke. When it cost next to nothing to do a credit check. Once checks are done and they have the money they don't give two hoots. They treat you like the bees knees till they have your money. And that's the majority of Agents. The whole industry needs to be vetted like they do. Just because I rent does not mean scum.

That`s not much of a defence though is it -- and l would suggest that they are the scum for treating potential clients like that.

You`re right, the whole industry needs to be vetted and overhauled, and we have the worst regulated letting agencies and landlords in Europe.
l go to Germany a lot, and other parts of Europe, and in Germany the majority of people rent. lt`s a lifestyle choice, not because they can`t afford to buy, and they often prefer not to be tied down with mortgages, when they can rent a very nice home for less, and put more money away in savings and for holidays.

Unfortunately we have a very snobby attitude here, even on my doctors form when l joined the surgery they asked " do you own, rent or live in council housing" which l thought was unnecessary, so l simply put " this question should not be relevant" and declined to answer. Dammed cheek, does this imply that l will get better treatment if l am a home owner, the worst if a council tenant, and somewhere in between if l rent privately, utterly stupid and should not be relevant to the care that ALL patients have a right to expect.
