A NEW cycle hire scheme at Southend Victoria Station has been launched by Rochford and Southend East MP James Duddridge.

The scheme is part of Abellio Greater Anglia’s new Bike and Go initiative, the UK’s first major station cycle hire programme.

With the school holidays approaching, rail passengers will now be able to hire a bike at Southend Victoria and explore the town.

Andrew Goodrum, Abellio Greater Anglia’s customer service director, said: “The new Bike and Go facility will improve the service and choice we provide for our customers who are keen to cycle to and from their local station.

“Competitively priced and easy to use, Bike and Go complements other investments we are making.”

Mr Duddridge said: “I am delighted to officially launch the scheme.

“It provides further options for passengers for their onward journeys.

“I look forward to seeing lots of these bikes out and about in the constituency.”

An annual subscription costs £10 at www.bikeandgo.co.uk with daily hire priced at £3.80.
