THE centenary of the First World War will be marked at Rayleigh Windmill with a new exhibition.
Organised by local charity, Rayleigh Through the Looking Glass, in conjunction with the district council, the exhibition will display historical photographs of the town taken in 1914. It will also feature the records and family photos of 204 Rayleigh men who fought in the conflict, including 92 who never returned.
Photos of more than 50 memorials and cemeteries from countries around the world, where Rayleigh men are buried, will also be on show, alongside First World War propaganda leaflets and books.
The exhibition opened at 1pm on Saturday at the Windmill, a Grade II listed building.
It will be open from 1pm to 4pm on August 3 and August 10, and from 10am to 1pm on July 30 and August 4, 5 and 6.
