A MAN who fell from a seafront viewing platform died of multiple injuries, an inquest has heard.

Michael Liversidge, 41, of York Road, Southend, died after falling about 80 feet from the Pier Hill Lift platform in Western Esplanade.

His family believe he took his own life, leaving them devastated.

An inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday.

The short hearing, at Essex Coroner’s Court, heard Mr Liversidge was reported missing on July 24. Police and paramedics were called to an incident near Adventure Island and found Mr Liversidge, confirming him dead at the scene. The seafront was close off in the aftermath of the incident. Mr Liversidge leaves two sisters and a girlfriend.

A post mortem examination was carried out by Dr David Rouse and, pending toxicology reports, he confirmed the initial cause of death was multiple injuries. The inquest was adjourned until November.

Essex coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray, requested reports to say whether Mr Liversidge was known to mental health services.
