THIS is the moment fire fighters tried to extinguish a major blaze at the Alexandra Yacht Club.

Six fire engines from Southend, Shoebury, Hawkwell and Rayleigh rushed to the building in Clifton Terrace, Southend at about 11.45pm last night and spent two hours extinguishing flames.

The Echo understands police were considering evacuating some residents if the fire was to spread.

The video clearly captures fire fighters calling for more support and shows crews trying to dampen the flames from below.

Shortly afterwards the aerial ladder platform was launched which managed to spread enough water to extinguish the blaze.
