A DAD is urging council officials and police to do more to stop vandals making his family’s lives a misery.

David Wells, 73, of Ashingdon Road, Rochford, says he faces £1,000 of repair to a garden fence which runs alongside a public footpath.

Vandals have broken several panels in the latest in a long line of incidents plaguing Mr Wells, who lives there with his wife, eight-year-old son and two other children.

He has lived in the house for 16 years and says antisocial behaviour just keeps getting worse.

Mr Wells added: “It has been going on for years, but a couple of weeks back, they were doing things every night.

“When we moved in, we thought it was an ideal place, with a little bit of garden, but it’s turned into a nightmare.

“People throw stones at our windows and we’ve had fence panels kicked in. It’s only a matter of time before they break into our garden and start throwing bricks.”

Mr Wells asked Rochford Council to put up a CCTV camera on the path, but was told the vandalism was not serious enough to warrant it. He said: “The council need to put their heads together, put the cameras up and catch these kids.”

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of incidents of vandalism at a property in Ashingdon Road, and nuisance behaviour experienced by the occupants. We have been liaising extensively with the occupants and the police to try to find a solution.”

Police have confirmed they were looking at the problem along with the council and said two teenagers had recently be given harassment warnings in the area.

A spokesman added: “We are working with this resident around some incidents of antisocial behaviour.

“Most recently, two 14-yearolds from Rochford have received harassment warnings in respect to an incident on October 1, when stones were thrown at the property.”
