A 51-year-old man from Westcliff has been arrested this morning on suspicion of the murder of Angela Millington.

He has been taken to Southend Police Station for questioning.

The remains of Angela's body were found on Foulness Island in June and a murder investigation was launched earlier this week.

Angela, 33, was from the Southend area but had no fixed address and was in contact with the homeless charity HARP.

Detective chief inspector Simon Werrett, who is leading the investigation, has thanked members of the public for their response to appeals for information about Angela.

He said: "I have been very encouraged by the number of calls we have had from people in the Southend area and the information they have given us has opened up a number of lines of enquiry.

"However I would still encourage people who know anything about Angela to continue to contact the incident room by calling Essex Police on 101 and then extension 470173."

The last definite sighting of her was on November 21 and on that day she withdrew cash from her bank account.

Ramblers spotted bones in the saltmarsh area of the island just after 1.45pm on Saturday, June 21 but Angela's body was so decomposed that forensic experts have not been able to establish how she died.
