STAFF and children at a Laindon primary school have been celebrating the opening of their new IT room.

The community computer suite was opened by Basildon mayor Mo Larkin and representatives from Essex County Council and Basildon Education Service Trust, at Laindon Park Primary School, Church Hill, yesterday.

As well as being used by pupils, the facility will open to the public for computer courses.

Dawn Hodgson, finance officer at the school, said: “The room has been kitted out with laptops and can be used by up to 20 of our children.

“In addition, we will be running sessions for the wider community. These will be available to book online through our school website.”

Furniture and some equipment was paid for by the school’s Parent Teacher Association which donated £1,495.
