NEW YORK: Police in the Long Island resort of Southampton have
confirmed that the weekend death of tennis star Vitas Gerulaitis was an
accident caused by carbon monoxide gas leaking into a beach cottage
where he slept. The statement ended two days of speculation about the
athlete, who was found dead in a friend's home after living a fast life
that included admitted past bouts with drugs.
