MORE than 300 people took part in a run for homeless charity Harp – including a group from France.

The Reims Runners were among the teams taking part in the Harp 24 run, which challenged participants to run anywhere between 4.2 miles, from Westcliff Rugby club into Cherry Orchard Country Park, and 100 miles in aid of the charity, based on York Road in Southend.

There were a variety of trophy winners, including the fancy dress award for the Bumble Bums and Fairies, and best international team to the Reims Runners.

A special trophy was also awarded to Jeff Bolton, who ran 113 miles in 27 laps around the 4.2 mile course. It was presented by Nathan Taylor, who won the trophy last year for running 105 miles.

Nathan said: “As a non-competitor this year I came along to run 25 miles alongside Jeff around the course in the middle of the night to support him. Harp 24 is a wonderful event for a great cause and we have a lot of fun.”

The only woman to run 100 miles was Charlie Jennings.

Proceeds from the event, which raised £7,000 last year, will provide funds to help operate the Bradbury Centre on York Road, where homeless people can go can find emergency accommodation.
