DAREDEVILS and superheroes raised more than £10,000 for Southend RNLI by abseiling down the side of a tall building.
Sixty fundraisers roped up to go down the 170ft-tall Highbanks building, formally Essex House, in Southchurch Road.
The money raised by the event will help fund the operational costs of Southend’s lifeboat station – the third busiest in the country.
Volunteers from the Southend RNLI station at the end of the pier launched 116 times in 2014, rescuing 104 people.
Spokesman Daniel Wanna, said: “Thanks to all those who took part and helped us raise more than £10,000.
“This is the first of many exciting fundraising activities we’ve got planned, so readers should keep an eye open for future events.”
