A HOME Office minster returned to give an inspirational speech to pupils at his former school.
Mike Penning, Minister of State for Policing, for Justice and for Disabled People, spoke at King Edmund School awards’ evening, at the Cliffs Pavilion, in Westcliff.
Proud parents watched as youngsters performed excerpts from the Rochford school’s annual musical and performing arts pupils showcased their talents in music and dance.
Mr Penning was in the Army and later served as a firefighter.
He lived in Thorpe Bay before entering Parliament and also worked for former Rochford and Southend East MP, Sir Teddy Taylor.
Mia Whitmore, marketing manager for the school, said: “Mr Penning gave a speech, which was extremely inspirational.
"He told students to always follow their dreams, live their life to its full potential and be incredibly proud of their achievements.”
The school, in Vaughan Close, holds an awards ceremony at the theatre, in Station Road, every year.
