A PUPIL missed his old school so much he created a digital replica of it.

Kieran Baker, 16, has spent much of the last 12 months recreating every inch of Rayleigh’s FitzWimarc School using the computer game Minecraft.

The game, which can be played on desktop computers, mobiles and other consoles, enables players to create structures out of textured cubes.

A walkthrough of Kieran’s model was uploaded to YouTube last week and has already been seen 1,357 times.

Kieran, of Mayflower Close, Southend, who now studies at South Essex College, said: “During my last year at the school I felt it had become like a second home, so decided to make my own little FitzWimarc so I could go back when ever I wanted to.

“It’s taken about 12 months, on and off, so there were periods when I may have spent four hours at a time working on it, but also periods when I might not go to it for a few weeks.

“When I first started, I still attended the school, so I was able to check each day whether things were the right size but, after that, it was all done from memory.

“There were some parts I struggled with because I hadn’t been there before, like the headmaster’s office and girls’ toilets, though.”

Kieran has also been taken back with the popularity of his creation with former pupils and staff.

He said: “Quite a few of my friends have seen it and it had several ‘shares’ on Facebook with people saying it’s amazing. I also sent it to one of my previous teachers, who was very impressed, and I think he’s shared it with some of the other staff there.”

While not everyone leaves school missing it quite as much as Kieran, he said his positive experience was down to attitude.

He said: “Throughout school life I’ve always tried my hardest and found, if I do that, I get things back and that’s what made it feel like a friendly environment.”
