AT ITS peak, Chalvedon School had more than 1,800 youngsters on its books at its site in Wickford Avenue, Pitsea.
Tens of thousands of Basildon youngsters passed through its door from its opening in 1966 until its closure in 2009, when it merged with Barstable School to form Basildon Academies.
As these photos from the Echo archive show, pupils and staff alike had plenty of fun through the years.
From testing radio communications in the Seventies, to sporting glory and dramatic flair in the Eighties, our photographers were there to capture the school's best moments.
