A TWO day exhibition is being held to showcase the redevelopment of Laindon Shopping Centre.

Swan Housing is looking to consult with local residents and businesses before it submits the planning application to Basildon Council in November.

The exhibition will take place on:

  • September 29 at the Great Berry Residents’ Association, Nightingales, Langdon Hills from 3pm to 7pm
  • September 30 at the Laindon Community Centre, Aston Road, Laindon from 3pm and 7pm.

Swan’s Masterplan outlines a mixed-use redevelopment of the Laindon Shopping Centre. At the heart of their plans are designs for a new Laindon high street comprising shops, homes and a new Swan office.

The plans shown at the exhibition can also be viewed on the dedicated project website, laindonfutures.co.uk, from September 29.

The exhibitions follow the public events held in July where local residents and businesses were invited to view and comment on Swan’s draft plans.

More than 600 people attended the events and 83 per cent of those who submitted feedback supported Swan’s draft plans.

Swan has carefully analysed all the feedback submitted at those exhibitions to inform, where possible, their latest plans. In particular, the final plans now include increased parking and also improved road and access arrangements to maximise connections for pedestrians.

A spokesperson for Swan said: “We’re excited to reveal to the community our Masterplan for the Laindon Shopping Centre that will deliver a new Laindon high street and provide a positive future for Laindon. We were delighted to have been able to hear from so many local people at the first exhibitions and look forward to sharing our plans with the community.

"This exhibition is an opportunity for people to come and view our plans and speak to the design team before we submit our planning application to the Council in November, so we hope as many people as possible attend and get involved in our consultation."
