THOUSANDS made the most of the sunshine by taking on a three mile walk to support local charities.

Fundraisers donned the favourite football kit, army clothes or colourful fancy dress for the annual event, which takes place at Barleylands, in Billericay.

Charities taking part this year included St Luke’s Hospice, the Billericay Street Pastors, Sociability and Snap.

They are all set to have their fundraising totals boosted thanks to the bonus pot. Generious sponsors donate cash, which is split between the participating charities and organisations depending on how much they raise.

Last year a total of £110,000 was raised - breaking records. For every £100 raised by projects in sponsorship, the bonus pot added a further £53.

The event is organised by John Baron, Tory parliamentary candidate for Basildon and Billericay. He said: “Many people and good causes less fortunate than ourselves will benefit from everyone’s generosity. It’s been a great team effort.”

Families were treated to an array of entertainment. There was live music, a barbecue and even a stilt walking clown.

Hallmark Care Homes - which runs Anisha Grange, in Billericay - is one of the main sponsors - this year donating £4,000 for the bonus pot.
