THE PARENTS of a young boy who needs adaptations to his home after losing a leg to cancer were delighted after an anonymous donor gave them £5,000.

Conall Riley, nine, has been through 17 months of treatments, including chemotherapy and having his right leg amputated below the knee, after being diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma.

Happily the pupil at Earls Hall Primary School, in Carlton Avenue, Southend, is now in remission and learning to use a prosthetic leg.

After using the prosthetic all day at school, Conall, who also has a brother, Finn, 11, and a sister Caireann, four, gets very tired and uses a wheelchair to get around at home but, as his kitchen has a step and his bedroom is upstairs, has to rely on his parents Cara and James Riley for help, meaning he has lost a lot of his independence.

To help, the family, who live in intern Road, Westcliff, want to build Conall a bedroom downstairs and a kitchen with no steps.

As his parents were forced to give up work to care for their three children when Conall first fell ill, and have struggled to find work since, his family have started a fundraising page to raise £25,000 towards the work.

Although it only launched last week, the page has already raised £365 and an anonymous donor has sent his parents a cheque for £5,000.

A message from his parents on a Facebook page dedicated to charting Conall's progress said: "Words cannot say how very shocked and grateful we are as a family to the anonymous donor of £5,000 towards Conall's Extension Fund."
