FULL STEAM AHEAD
It was all aboard the past in Southend as a vintage locomotive pulled into town. Scores of passengers packed into the 1954 Duke of Gloucester at Southend Central Station, for a cross country trip to Gloucester. The train was withdrawn for scrap in 1962 after only eight years in operation, but was brought back to life after a 13-year restoration project by the Duke of Gloucester Steam Locomotive Trust. It now makes leisure trips across the country, organised by Steam Dreams. read more
