Delighted to sink to new depths

CITY bankers may have sunk pretty low in the public eye, but Jamie Barber has sunk even lower than them in the banking world.

As a construction site manager, Jamie spent much of his working life installing basements and swimming pools underneath the City of London.

Jamie is now putting his underground knowledge into running his own business, AJS Drainage.

The Canvey-based firm will undertake any work to do with drains, including construction, clearance and investigation.

Jamie said: “I’d had enough of working for other people on multi-million pound projects and I wanted to strike out on my own.

“I don’t think there’s anything I don’t know about drains after all this time so I’m putting that knowledge into my business.”

The business takes its name from the initials of Jamie’s children.

The new boss admits he is up against giant national franchises, but believes his wide experience, emphasis on personal service, and low prices, will make him highly competitive.

He also believe he has one other asset, not always experienced among people called out to prod drains.

“I just love my work,” he says.
