Irma's Pizzeria is in the heart of Leigh, perfectly situated for the start of an evening out. Like many of the restaurants close to the Broadway, it's a lively, vibrant place.
Seated at a table close to the open front, we were quickly handed a menu. We ordered drinks and pondered the pizzas and pasta on offer, but when the waitress returned we were told the only pasta dishes available were those written on the mirror at the back of the restaurant. This was too far away to read so we stuck to the pizzas - though we did have every intention of ordering pizza, anyway. The over-eager waitresses then returned twice within five minutes to see if we were ready.
Our main courses were Cipolle and Spinaci, both on 12-inch bases. The Cipolle was primarily anchovies and caramelised onion, while the Spinaci - obviously - was spinach, with a poached egg. They were both fine, if unspectacular, and very filling. As such, only one dessert could be managed and that was Budino - chocolate cake in a ramekin, with a small scoop of ice cream. By now, the previously over-eager waitresses were a little over-run and service had slowed down considerably.
All the food was OK. Irma's is probably better though as an evening out rather than a starting point. The place was jam-packed. But the best recommendation for it must be the two Italian guys sitting on the next table - they were clearly regulars. And you can't argue with that, can you?

We took our 2 grandchildren who were made most welcome.
Food is good except the Thai king prawn not enough and too expensive as a starter.
