A taste of sunny Spain
 |
| Hot stuff - Latino's |
DINERS can be transported straight to the Mediterranean as soon as they step through the doors of Latino's, in Hadleigh.
Although the outlook is onto a busy main road instead of a sandy beach, the restaurant captures the essence of a Spanish holiday with its traditional wooden chairs, vine leaves and large selection of tapas.
We ordered mushrooms in tomato sauce topped with stilton - a very promising start which melted in the mouth and the sauce was great for dipping in afterwards. The calamares, served with a tartare dipping sauce, was light and neither stringy nor chewy.
The Paella Mixta was the real success of the evening and we were defeated by the massive two person dish full of plenty of meaty mussels, monkfish, prawns, squid, chicken and beef as well as a salty chorizo, in a spicy saffron-coloured rice.
The vegetarian among us found there was plenty of choice in the hefty tapas menu and ordered dishes which also came up in ample portions.
There was patatas bravas (potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce) which had a pleasant tang and garlic mushrooms which were not too overpowering. But the best of the vegetarian dishes, however, was the peppers stuffed with creamy vegetables which were unique and full of flavour.
A huge fridge along the wall of the restaurant offers a wide range of desserts to eye up before you choose.
We had a light cheesecake with a biscuit base between us, which was pleasant and easy to manage after our substantial meal.
