I found my cure in a bookshop
 |
| Inspired - Nicky Ester |
I CAN remember a day towards the end of the summer of 1996, which not only changed the direction that my life was to take, but also changed how I perceived life. In fact I can remember the exact moment on that fateful day where my life was to change. I was in a bookshop just outside Victoria station in London browsing through the Self Help' section when I came upon a book called A Time To Heal' by Beata Bishop.
At the time I was myself not a fighting example of health. Doctors were unable to prescribe me any medication as despite several tests they were unsure what exactly was wrong with me and as a result it was fair to say I felt very lost. My symptoms were many but the most debilitating were digestive problems and extreme fatigue. It was for this latter reason that I sat on the floor whilst flicking through my newly found book. What I found in this book was something that up until that time seemed impossible. The story was not one of fiction but about a woman, who having been diagnosed with melanoma, chose as a last resort to follow a very strict dietary regime developed by a German physician and succeeded in fighting her illness. The thoughts that ran through my mind were that this could not be possible as if it was we would surely know more about it. Yet why would someone make up such a story if it were not true?
Over the next weeks and months I found I was unable to forget the essence of what was captured in that book and knew I wouldn't believe it until I had seen it with my own eyes. At the same time I was struggling with the fact that the fatigue that surrounded me was becoming so encompassing that I had to start working part time until it forced me to stop work altogether and move back to my parents.
Finally my health did begin to improve and I was able to go to Mexico and visit the hospital where Beata Bishop was treated. As a result I learnt what a true gift it is to know that when we give our body what it needs, on a physical and emotional level, that the effect can be so overwhelmingly positive and astounding. Meeting people who had done exactly that helped me to not give up in relation to my own health problems and more than this share what I had learnt.
This is how, after the chance reading of a book, regaining my health and following the footsteps of fate I trained as a nutritional therapist.
