Threat to 300 jobs as health centres close

UP to 300 jobs could be affected by the closure of two mental health centres as part of multi-million pound cost-cutting measures.

South Essex Partnership NHS Trust, which provides mental health services across south Essex, has confirmed it is shutting Aston Court in Laindon, and the Taylor Centre in Southend.

Services provided at Aston Court will be merged with the mental health unit at Basildon Hospital early next year.

It is unclear where services at the Taylor Centre will be relocated, further adding to the distress of its patients.

The two centres provide bases for adult and older people’s mental health teams. Services also include a range of specialist outpatient services, talking therapies and community drug and alcohol services.

A spokesman said: “The trust is undergoing service transformations, which involves changing the locations of some services, to ensure we continue providing excellent healthcare for our patients.

“More than 300 staff work from these two locations and will be consulted on the proposed changes to service locations. Successful implementation of the proposed changes to services should enable relocation to new accommodation within the next 12 months. The potential impact on jobs is currently being assessed.”

The trust says it is still calculating the full scale of savings it will have to make following the Government’s spending review.

The spokesman added: “The trust is working closely with commissioners to ensure the majority of efficiencies which may be required are identified from areas of expenditure which do not have a direct impact on the quality or safety of patient services.

“Throughout this process we have and will continue to consult with patients and staff so they are informed about any changes that will affect them in terms of their care and work place.”

Who was it that put us in this position with no money left.
Who was the Chancellor for twelve years?
Who was the prime Minister?
Oh yes it was the Labour Party.
So V in the vicinty. Either admit that your socialist party was wrong with it's policies. Or stop moaning when someone else has to get the country oput of the Mire that the two B's got us into.

As the story says
"UP TO 300 jobs could be affected " and not UP TO 300 patients....

it is obvious that
A) This paper doesn't know the answer and is scaremongering again
B) That, as the services are being merged, these jobs are wasting money better spent on the provision of services for - 'protecting the vulnerable and needy'
C) That to blame it on the Tories shows 'V' might need to make an appointment asap.

I Can't wait for the headline
"Up to 300 jobs might possibly go at Echo Newspapers after readers realise what a lot of tripe is written"

Never mind the hoo ha over lost jobs & mental health services being moved to different locations!
The question that should be asked is; Why is there so many people needing meatal health care?
As a so call civilised society, there are so many who feel the the need to; either take illegal drugs, or need the cruch of presciption drugs to get them through life.
We humans have come on so far in the last 100 years, with world wide communications, and so many things to make daily routines easy. That so so many now need help to get by.
Have with come too far away from the most important thing in this world?
My anwser is forget the material things of this world, and remember who created this world, and sent His son to die for your eternal salvation. One day a week to stop and and reflect on were we are going and doing to this wonderfull creation that was given to Mankind!
Laugh if you like, but remember, one day we all will meet our maker!

Not to worry about the jobs. 7,000 new jobs were promised on the new industrial park, as part of the airport expansion package. I wonder when the work will start; very quick with the runway, not so quick with the industrial estate.

Who was it that failed to control the Banks, allowing them to take excessive risks? Yes the two B's; who then gave them taxpayer's money like confetti, also without any form of control, only to see the money fund obscene, unjustified bonuses.

Sorry but blaming the Bankers doesn't get Labour off the hook.
~
Who was it who altered the system for monitoring the Banks, a system which then failed to do the job - Gordon Brown.
~
Who was it who allowed the Banks to reduce their Capital Adequacy Ratio's so they could borrow /lend more against their assets - Gordon Brown.
~
Who was it despite warnings that the sector was lending excessivley chose to ignore the advice and instead spend/waste the ever increasing tax take from the Banks on Labour pet projects - Gordon Brown.
~
When the economy of a country is so reliant on one sector for it's income/tax take then that sector needs to be monitored closely in exactly the same way as a company who is over reliant on one customer. This is to ensure that any change/hiccup would not put the Economy at risk.
That is just plain common sense. Gordon Brown and Labour could have very easily kept the Banks under control but they didn't either through choice or incompetance.
~
Blame the Bankers is a cop out for many Labour supporters but in reality the buck stopped with Blair and Brown.
~
They should have regulated the Banks correctly and known exactly what the Banks were doing. They could have then heeded the warnings and we would be in a far better position today than we currently are.

Whether its the tories or Labour, politicians have made a mess of running this country ,especially for the last 25 years.Their ideas on mass immigration,European Community, political correctness,Human rights have had an overall devastating effect on our economy and way of life. They imposed these policies and the people of this country put up with it without protest. The british people no longer have the guts to stand up to being trodden on,unlike the french.

V in the vicinity please leave the Socialist worker party, and step back and see who the hell generates the wealth in this country it certainly was not the Brownies who I remember saying 'No more boom or bust' well we are bust !!!

And stop blaming the Banks they are the only people that can get us out of the shyt.

However I feel certain all the anarchist Socialist Worker's for the first time since 1984 will have the opportunity to wave their banners, put on their marching boots and 'take to the streets' however this time you might be joined by the saviours of the past the former Police Force now known as the Police Service.

Bring out the 'Little Red Books' speak to your allies in China, North Korea, Zimbabwe, Cuba however you might only be able talk to the party members the rest are in prison.

Labour v Tory blah blah blah. They all got caught with their hands in the till. They all promise one thing in the manifesto then when in power don't deliver. Liars and con artists.

We've been sold down the river by traitorous politicans to Europe. Now criminals have the right to vote. Human rights act - great if you're a criminal.

ONLY when we get an English parliament for the English nation will we be truly represented.

Shame to hear the Taylor centre is closing not particularly for the alcoholics/druggies but because named after one of the few decent tory MPs ever - Teddy Taylor a man that help everyone not just the rich in Thorpe Bay/Leigh. This tory council could learn a few things from his time as MP.

If you have lived an suffered some of horrific the things that some mental health patients have suffered you would so be so glib about your remarks.

Please do not assume everyone needs the medication fix, some of us really suffer even with the 'medication fix' thanks to the sheer and utter cruelty of mankind!

As for 'our maker' where was he when the monsters he supposedly created were inflicting so much pain and misery on lives of innocent people?

As for 'our maker', where was he when innocent folk became victims of the so called mankind that he created!
