Pupils as young as 11 get quit smoking class

YOUNG smokers are being given help to quit the habit – at school.

Pupils as young as 11 at Honywood Community Science School, Coggeshall, are being helped by school nurses and health professionals, as part of classes aimed at preparing them for the world of work.

Headteacher Simon Mason said: “In the real world of work now, there are very few places where smokers can go to smoke and the children need to understand that is the world they will be going into."

As well as getting advice on giving up smoking, pupils will be warned about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

I'd like to know how they afford to be smokers. Seems to me they have too much disposable income.

I bet at least one of the parents of the 11 year old smokers are also smokers.

I dont think it is reporting there are 11 year old smokers, simply that they are educating children as young as 11 year about smoking.

Daftest thing you can say to a child is ‘don’t do this’.
Practically guarantees they will do it.

I think this goes to show... just because you can have children, it doesn’t mean you’re fit to! Oh wait, the claim from them will be that it’s everyone else's fault and nothing to do with them.

Well I very much doubt it would be delivered with a 'don't do this' method, any more than advice on contraception, pregnancies or stds is.

I would think the message will be about highlighting the consequences rather than preaching.

Interesting that you mention sex ed as a success for the just give advice method.
That certainly stopped teen pregnancies didn't it....er nope.
