SOUTHEND'S longest running club night will be packing away its high heels this week.
Coco Cuba, which first started 11 years ago, is holding a fancy dress grand finale at The Royal Hotel tomorrow and everyone's invited - as long as you come with an open mind.
The night, which plays a mixture of funk, house and disco, caters for fun-loving clubbers of all ages. And the man behind it all is Southender Scott Elliott, who has been providing people with a place they can dress and express' for the last decade.
Coco Cuba was originally held at the Palace Hotel and over the years, has attracted thousands of flamboyant characters.
Many locals have spent a memorable night out on the tiles dressed inventively as Christmas trees and Andy Warhol paintings, to name but a few. And Scott is hoping the loyal Coco Cubans will dress for the occasion one last time on Saturday.
"After more than 150 parties, we have decided to wind down the operation," he told the Echo. "For me, it's been a life-changing experience but 11 years is a long time to stay passionate about the same thing.
"We've had an amazing array of people through the doors and I honestly believe the clubbers are still the most colourful and open-minded for miles around."
