RISING stars British Sea Power enjoyed a kickabout with players from Canvey Island FC before taking to the stage for a one-off gig.

The current darlings of the indie music scene, whose latest album includes the song Canvey Island, decided to pay a visit to players after club official Glen Eckett contacted them to ask if they would give him an interview for the team's matchday programme.

They went one better and came in person, before playing at the 200-capacity Monico, in Eastern Esplanade, last night.

Brilliant gig, the Monico should look into getting a few more bands playing there.

Downloaded and listened to the Canvey song - I thought it was crap! But I am getting on a bit now.

Excellent Gig last night, well done to the monico as everything went well. I felt comfortable despite peoples perception of the venue. Is all good these days.
