The RAF offers more than 50 different career paths across a variety of skills and trades, but it also offers major opportunities for those in other walks of life.
The Royal Air Force Reserves have just exceeded a landmark recruitment target for 2014/2015 after attracting more than 800 new members.
One of them is Jacqui Wellington, 44, from Southend, who has now attested at the recruitment intake at RAF Northolt. In her civilian life, Jacqui works for the Royal Bank of Scotland. As an RAF reservist, she will train in Flight Operations.
The Commandant of RAF College Cranwell, Air Commodore Chris Luck who is also head of recruitment and selection, said: “I am delighted the RAF Reserve has reached a milestone for attestations over the 2014/2015 recruitment period.
“Overall recruitment into the RAF Reserves is much improved on previous years, which is a demonstration of the great work being carried out by HQ recruiting and selection, and by the 24 different squadrons that have contributed to reaching this target.”
Jacqui was formally enrolled at a ceremony held by 600 Squadron (City of London) Squadron at RAF Northolt in North-West London this week.
Welcoming the latest recruits, Officer Commanding 600 squadron, Wing Commander Andy Calame, said: “This is an important day for us, and a historic one. It has been one of the largest recruit attestations for many years.”
Jacqui said: “I wanted to join the reserves to play my part in the security of our people and our country. I am looking forward to the challenge and learning new skills, but also the camaraderie and the team work.”
RAF reservists serve alongside regulars in the UK and overseas.
Working around their day job, they gain experience at weekends, gaining transferable skills in the process.
Jacqui said: “We get the best of both worlds by balancing careers and home life, with the challenge and adventure of the RAF.”
Air Commodore Luck added: “If you’re looking for a responsible job that’s challenging and rewarding, the RAF has a career for you.
“To fulfill all our roles, we require highly-trained people throughout our organisation.
