Motor Vehicle students from South Essex College were recently treated to employability talks and demonstrations from motoring organisation, the AA.

The students, who all study on motor vehicle courses at the college’s Basildon Campus, were given access to two of the AA’s latest roadside recovery vehicles in class.

The AA guests offered students information and key advice on customer service and the latest industry technology.

Student Adam Gentry, 20, from Stanford le- Hope, said: “The lesson was really informative, the AA explained the full side of the road recovery process.

“They also told us about the importance of customer service and how mechanics must explain to the customer what is wrong with the vehicle in a clear and calm way to put them at ease.”

Thomas Smith, AA area manager for Essex, said: “It’s vital we go into colleges and meet the next generation of talent.

“The AA really wants to invest in the future of this industry and make sure all students have the skills needed to succeed.”

The AA has more than 15 million members and is the UK’s largest motoring organisation.

Breakdown cover has always been its number one priority, but it’s since branched out into finance, insurance, leisure and lifestyle services.
