IT’S a tale that lets children’s imaginations run wild. But what happens when they actually encounter the Gruffalo live on stage?
Find out when the creature comes to Westcliff’s Palace Theatre, from today until Saturday. The stage show is a musical adaptation of the best-selling book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
It tells the story of a cunning mouse who takes an adventurous journey through a deep, dark wood.
On his way, he meets a wheeler- dealer fox, an eccentric old owl and a maraca-shaking, party-mad snake, and manages to avoid being eaten with tall tales of the terrifying Gruffalo.
Yet there’s a surprise in store when the mouse comes face-to-face with the beast he imagined.
The book, first published in 1999, has become a massive hit, selling more than three million copies worldwide. It was recently voted the nation’s number one bedtime story by BBC Radio 2 listeners, and has been made into a animated film featuring an all-star cast of voices such as James Corden, Robbie Coltrane, John Hurt and Rob Brydon.
The stage version has been touring since 2001. It has even been performed as far away as America and Australia.
