CYNICISM and gloom are not the most obvious material for comedy, but stand-up Mike Gunn has made a career out of it.
The comedian, best known for his appearances on Michael MacIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, is a self-confessed pessimist and his darkly humorous outlook on life has struck a chord with fans all over the country.
He brings his quirky brand of dry humour to the Laughing Pod’s new venture, Laughter at Lords in Rayleigh, on Sunday.
He is sure to have the audience in stitches with his deadpan delivery and gimlet observations.
Despite his morose outlook, Mike manages a huge amount of warmth in his performances and is a real audience favourite, with a cult-like following on the live circuit.
Never one to shy away from unlikely subjects, his first Edinburgh show, Good Grief, saw hiM take on the persona of a funeral director garner rave reviews. His second, Uncut, saw him tackle the gritty subject of drug addiction and recovery with a comic edge.
Television appearances include Harry Hill’s TV Burp, Al Murray’s Time Gentleman Please and Live at Jongleurs as well as Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.
He’ll be supported at Lords, where you can enjoy a curry along with your comedy, by Jonny Williams, Gary Tro, Les Bennett, Mark Diamond and Michael Kossew.
Laughter at Lords Lords Golf and Country Club, Hullbridge Road, Rayleigh.
Sunday, 6pm £15 for comedy and curry £10 for just comedy, 01702 232 377
