This is Dirt 3, the second sequel to a great batch of fun driving titles. More of the same? Well, yes, but then most games are like that.

We get the usual tweaks in the appearance of course, wouldn’t be worth doing otherwise, as there is always room for improvement.

But there is also plenty of ways to destroy your car going sideways. All sorts of locations and surfaces, not to mention the lunatics you are racing against.

All in all, the AI drivers won’t always be looking to wipe you out at the first opportunity, but they do seem to bear a grudge, so play nice.

We have rally, rallycross, Land Rush, Trail Blazer, Gymkana, and Head2Head, all with the full intention that you are never actually steering much in the direction you actually intend to go in.

This means some real finessing of the controls. Hard sharp movements will have you in a tank-slapper in no time, and it’s reset time and no one wants to be doing that over and over.

So a careful touch is what’s needed here, and I guess that’s the main reason for the age advice. Smaller children may have some trouble keeping it all together but they have to learn some time, may as well be now.

May be worth getting that force feedback wheel now, if you don’t already have one.
