Ben Shephard, Rochelle Humes and Chris Kamara are set to return for a second series of ITV game show Ninja Warrior UK.

Branded “TV’s toughest obstacle course”, the show sees competitors attempt to complete tough challenges – including the Log Grip, Curtain Slider and the Warped Wall – and avoid pitfalls such as falling into the cold water below.

Part of the enjoyment for viewers is watching cocksure contestants fail.

In addition to being exciting and fun to watch, Ninja Warrior UK was a bona fide hit, peaking at an average of six million overnight viewers.

Reminiscent in tone of legendary old ITV Saturday night favourite Gladiators, it has already been a smash hit in the US, Sweden and Japan.

But the big question is will we see someone conquer the course in the second series?

None of the 250 first-series competitors managed to do so (Tim Shieff beat 13 other contestants to get the furthest in the final). It’s fair to say this programme’s “tough” label is justified.
