A CROWD of thousands brought their brollies and braved the rain for a nostalgia trip in Rhyl.

Music fans packed out the Rhyl Events Arena for the free Summer Festival event which was headlined by Heather Small, the voice of 90s stars M People at on the East Parade.

The event, organised by Denbighshire County Council (DCC), with support from Rhyl Town Council, was attended by the Mayor of Rhyl, Win Mullen-James.

A spokesperson for DCC said: "The summer festival at Rhyl’s Events Arena on Sunday proved a huge hit with the locals as thousands of nostalgic music fans flocked to the seaside location for a trip down memory lane.

“Even a short downpour couldn’t dampen the spirits of the festival as Rhyl Events Arena was once again transformed into a sea of Day-Glo, glitter and hairstyles from another era for Summer Fest 2018."

Joining Small were 1970s chart toppers Showaddywaddy and 1980s glam rockers Doctor and the Madics, who kept the audience engaged by releasing balloons into the crowd and came in outlandish dress - including a Cyberman from BBC One’s Doctor Who.

Other acts performing include Dusty Springfield tribute act Maxine Mazumber and local soul and funk band Yubaba.

The spokesperson added:“Summer Fest proves that the music of the era definitely stands the test of time and attracts a great audience.”
