IT’S a real family affair for the latest show by Brightlingsea’s Seaview Players.

Appearing in the cast are father and son Darryl and Jeremy Crawley, while stage managing is mum, Kay.

But bringing the whole thing together is director daughter Jordon.

Jordon says: “It was dad who started the family tradition.

“He’s been doing it for 35 years so I kind of grew up with it.

“My first Seaview show was Blood Brothers back in 2005 when I was just 13, but I’ve been in the town’s panto since I was eight.

“I suppose appearing on stage from such a young age, it was a natural progression to move into directing.

“I assisted the directing for Beauty and the Beast last year for the Brightlingsea Panto Group and enjoyed it so much I asked if I could do a Seaviewplay this year.”

Following popular runs of She Stoops to Conquer and the Importance of Being Earnest earlier this year, it will be Jordon’s production of Alan Bennett’s the History Boys that will bring another successful Seaview season to a close.

A smash hit in the West End and then made into a film with Richard Griffiths and James Corden, the play follows a group of sixth formers and their teachers trying to secure a place at Oxbridge.

Jordon says: “Before I chose it I had never actually seen the play performed on the stage.

“Then I saw the one at the Mercury and thought it was one of the best shows I had ever seen, so I was pretty pleased I had made it my choice.

“Up until then, I had seen the film and, of course, read the script and I wanted to do it because I fell in love with all the characters.

“Staging wise, there’s not a lot of moving about on the stage which is good for me because I can then concentrate on the performances.

“That’s what I’m really interested in.”

But how do her big brother and dad feel about being directed by a sister and daughter?

Jordon says: “Oh they’re the easiest ones to direct, because I can tell them things really honestly and I know they won’t get offended.

“Not that the rest of the cast have been a problem, in fact they’ve all been fantastic.

“We’ve had so much fun doing this, it’s just been one great big laugh.

“The boys do muck about a bit, but I kind of let them because I don’t really want to lose that atmosphere between them.”
