IF you thought you were a bit too old for pantomime, BANGyellow could throw a whole new light on things.

Oh Yes It Is – a production for over 18-year-olds – will be improvised from beginning to end, and what’s more, the audience will get to choose any panto they want, on the night.

Ali James, who has put the production together, said: “We’ve got together all kinds of props and costumes and are getting everything ready as much as we can, dressing the place so it’s like a real theatre.

“But it really is going to be a huge challenge and great fun.

“The audience will be able to choose whatever panto they want, on the night.

“It goes on for three nights, but we won’t repeat the same panto twice.”

Not only will the nine actors have to rise to the challenge, but a band will also improvise all the music, on the spot, which the actors will have to sing along to, making sure everything rhymes.

The cast have been made up of local improv groups Quirkish Delight, Lost Desperados and BANGyellow.

“We have such a mix of different abilities” said Ali, “some have only ever worked with short-form improv and have never had to work on something with a plot and several characters in an improv manner.

“As the director, it really is good fun and rewarding to see this, because everyone is doing so brilliantly.”

“It’s a great challenge to think I can make this the best theatrical production I possibly can, but I still can’t actually plan it.”

Oh Yes it Is! takes place at the Alex, in Alexandra Street, Southend, from Wednesday, December 18, until Saturday, December 21.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7 from tickets@bangyellow.co.uk or 01702 460706. There is a discount on group bookings.
