STORIES based on life’s “lushes, losers and harlots” will be told at the Old Trunk Theatre Company’s Tales and Ales event on Sunday.

Titled, Barflies and Floozies, the night of mini yarns, each about five minutes long, will come from a mixture of poets, authors and playwrights.

Organiser and Echo columnist, Sadie Hasler, said: “Every month we have a theme and thought this time it would be a good idea – especially given the location of the Alex pub – to go down the boozy literary Hemingway route, which can open up all the dark characters and interesting pub goers.”

Storytellers will include Amazon best-selling author of fantasy fiction, Stuart Wakefield, poet Simon Blackman and Karl Minns, who writes for Russell Howard’s Good News.

Tales and Ale, which started last year has been going from strength to strength and Old Trunk – Sadie and actress Sarah Mayhew – have just been asked to perform on a new storytelling stage at this year’s Latitude Festival in Suffolk.

After Sunday’s event, Tales and Ale will be back on June 15.

If you’d like to take part, email a five-minute story to oldtrunktheatre @gmail.com for consideration. Writers can either read themselves, or Old Trunk will cast an actor. Deadline for submissions is Friday June 6.

This Sunday’s event takes place upstairs at the Alex, Alexandra Street, at 7.30pm. Admission is £4.
