A NEW classical music festival featuring world-class musicians is set for Frinton later this month.

The Frinton Festival will include four concerts of beautiful music between May 29 and June 1 by Schubert, and Russian composer Sergei Taneyev, played by some of the country’s best musicians.

Organiser Robert Max is performing at both shows and believes it will be a spectacular weekend.

Robert said: “There is so little top class music around here so I decided I wanted to put on something special for the local people and those who are holidaymaking in Frinton at the time.

“I have been performing here for some time but I wanted to do something a little bit extra, even though it was a bit of a risk.

“I think there is a real demand for it and two of the concerts in more intimate venues on Friday and Sunday sold out very quickly.”

Robert will be performing with his group, the Barbican Piano Trio, which features Sophie Lockett and James Kirby, along with guests Beatrice Phillips on violin and James Boyd on viola at St Mary’s Church in Frinton on Thursday, May 29, at 7.30pm.

Brilliant young group Celan Quartet will be playing along with Robert as a guest on Saturday at All Saints Church in Great Holland with the audience being welcomed with a celebratory peal of bells from 6.40pm.

Robert said: “The Celan Quartet are staggeringly good musicians and I have known them all since they attended a music course I teach called MusicWorks.”

“Other former students and colleagues will also be performing so it seems as if it has come full circle.

“This calibre of performer would not be out of place at some of London’s top venues and the people in the area deserve something similar.”

Tickets cost £15 and include a complementary glass of wine.
