A TASTE of the Edinburgh festival comes to Holland-on-Sea at the weekend when the 101st Stand Up For Labour comedy show is staged.

The venture started as a Labour Party fundraiser, organised by Crispin Flintoff in 2012 and has since attracted big names including Jo Brand, Eddie Izzard and John Bishop at gigs across the country.

Two comics will be preview the sets they plan to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe at Holland Public Hall on Saturday from 7.30pm.

Comedy fans can see Joe Wells, who organised a world record-breaking gig which lasted 80 hours and 40 minutes last year, and Stephen Carlin, who has been named by fellow comic Stewart Lee as “one of ten best comedians in the world – ever”.

Flintoff will be hosting the night and those at the show can also expect to hear political speeches from Labour parliamentary candidate for Clacton, Tim Young, and Tendring councillor Ivan Henderson.

Mr Young said: “I am delighted to welcome Stand Up for Labour to Clacton.

“The events have been a raging success all over the country and it is a real coup that we’ve attracted such a great line-up. Obviously, the show will be particularly suited to Labour supporters, but it is open to everybody.

“The venue only holds 100 people, so I would advise anyone planning to come to book up as soon as they can.”
