A HOTLY-TIPPED band from Southend have been given a timely boost by one of the world’s biggest acts.

Doojip, a four-piece rock band from the town, were given confirmation of their promise after their cover of The Who’s “The Seeker” was shared by the legendary band on Facebook.

The band posted a video of their cover from a performance at The Railway Hotel in Clifftown Road.

Gary Bynorth, 26, singer in the band, said that the video being shared by The Who has given them a big confidence boost.

He said: “We were playing in the downstairs venue of the Railway Hotel.

“For me, it is everything we could want, I have listened to The Who since I was five years old.

“We are huge fans of rock music from the Sixties and bang into Mod culture, so to have one of the best recognise us is amazing.”

This is the second occasion that the rock giants have shared Doojip’s music and Gary feels it is the biggest compliment their band could receive.

He said: “It is so rewarding and when we are singing their songs and they are actually saying it is good, what more could you want?”

Gary said that the band shared the post originally with the band to see what they thought of it.

Gary added: “I have a loose relationship with the band’s guitarist, Pete Townshend, so I messaged him and said ‘I know you will not see this but please listen to our cover’.”

Since the post, the band, which has been together for only a year, have become a viral sensation, with their last video viewed by 144,000 people.

Gary said that the band are still in shock over their meteoric rise.

Doojip’s next show will be at the Alex pub in Alexandra Street on Saturday, October 28.
