Burlesque showcase vows exotic mix of acts

A SPLENDID feast of entertainment hits the Railway Hotel over the weekend as the Gilded Lili opens its spangly doors.

The burlesque showcase will present a heady blend of comedy, dance and song with visits from some top performers.

The brainchild of beautiful Westcliff burlesque singer Lili La Scala, it will feature a set from the lady herself.

She will be showing off more than just her impressive vocal performance before she introduces her exotic and eclectic stable of guests at the venue in Southend.

The Blue Lady – Tricity Vogue took the Edinburgh Fringe by storm last year with her musical extravaganza, and the cabaret diva is a darling with critics and audiences alike.

She will be joined by comedians Michael J Dolan and the Boy With Tape on His Face, aka Westcliff-based Sam Wills.

Says Lili: “Michael J Dolan is arrogant, immature, heroically lazy and probably the smartest man alive.

“He is also paranoid, socially incapable and emotionally fragile and has achieved literally nothing in over a decade. He’s pretty sure that’s not his fault.”

Meanwhile, Sam will have his audience in stitches with his mimed show, which sees him take to the stage with tape over his mouth, while he enchants and delights audience members with his whimsical and hilarious silent sketches.

The bill will be completed by burlesque performers Dolly Rose and Venice Pearl. Their polished, witty routines will have audiences not sure where to look, but no doubt unable to look away.

Dolly Rose draws on her background in ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary dance to create delightfully funny routines, full of charm and humour.

Venice Pearl takes her inspiration from the beauty, history and culture of European cities, nature, film noir and Parisian showgirls in her magical show.
